Position Summary

Momentum Wheels for Humanity (MWH), through the Rehabilitation in Ukraine (Rehab4U) project, seeks to engage two consultants under the same position description to jointly develop and author a Ukrainian-language student manual on Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) for students preparing to become physical therapists. The consultants will work as co-authors and will share responsibility for the scientific, educational, and practical quality of the manual. They will jointly define the structure and learning objectives, identify and critically appraise relevant scientific evidence, draft and cross-review chapters, develop practical learning activities and physical therapy cases, respond to technical review, and finalize the manuscript. By the end of the consultancy period, the consultants will submit a complete, internally harmonized manuscript that is ready for electronic publication and use in physical therapy education in Ukraine.

Expected Duties and Responsibilities

The Evidence-Based Practice Student Manual Consultant will work collaboratively with the second consultant, the Rehab4U Objective 2 team, and Leading Specialist in Clinical Education. Each consultant will be responsible for contributing substantively to the full manual rather than working only as an editor or proofreader. The primary tasks include:

Develop the conceptual, scientific, and educational framework of the manual:

  • Jointly define the purpose, target audience, scope, table of contents, sequence of chapters, learning objectives, and expected learning outcomes for a student manual on Evidence-Based Practice in physical therapy.
  • Identify, search, select, critically appraise, and synthesize current scientific literature relevant to physical therapy, prioritizing systematic reviews, clinical practice guidelines, high-quality primary research, and authoritative methodological sources.
  • Develop content that explains the full EBP process, including formulation of answerable professional questions, structured literature searching, critical appraisal, interpretation of research findings, application of evidence to professional decision-making, and evaluation of outcomes.
  • Ensure that the manual integrates the best available research evidence with the physical therapist's professional expertise and the needs, preferences, goals, and values of the patient/service user.
  • Ensure that the content is appropriate for undergraduate and graduate-entry learners in physical therapy and is consistent with contemporary physical therapy education, professional terminology, and the Ukrainian educational and clinical context.

Author and develop the student manual:

  • Write assigned chapters and sections in Ukrainian using clear academic language that is accessible to students and suitable for formal educational publication.
  • Develop practical explanations and examples of research designs, levels and certainty of evidence, sources of bias, measures of treatment effect, clinical relevance, and other concepts required for critical interpretation of rehabilitation research.
  • Develop discipline-specific examples showing how evidence is used in physical therapy assessment, selection and interpretation of outcome measures, intervention planning, monitoring of progress, and professional decision-making.
  • Develop examples of database searching and evidence retrieval relevant to physical therapy, including use of major biomedical and rehabilitation evidence resources.
  • Develop student-oriented clinical cases, guided exercises, discussion questions, critical appraisal tasks, self-study activities, and other learning elements that support practical application of EBP principles.
  • Use consistent contemporary physical therapy terminology throughout the manual and ensure that key concepts are presented consistently across all chapters.
  • Maintain accurate in-text citations and a complete reference list, ensuring that all scientific claims are traceable to appropriate sources and that references correspond correctly to the text.

Collaborate, review, and finalize the publication-ready manuscript:

  • Work as co-authors, including regular coordination, division of writing responsibilities, cross-review of each other's chapters, and joint resolution of scientific, terminological, and structural issues.
  • Review the complete manuscript for scientific accuracy, internal consistency, duplication, gaps, readability, and suitability for future physical therapists.
  • Participate in coordination meetings with the Leading Specialist in Clinical Education and provide progress updates as requested.
  • Revise the manuscript in response to consolidated technical, scientific, educational, and editorial feedback provided through the project review process.
  • Conduct final quality assurance of the manuscript, including verification of citations, references, terminology, chapter structure, tables, learning activities, and consistency between sections.
  • Submit the final complete manuscript and associated editable source materials in a format ready for electronic publication by the end of the consultancy period.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in physical therapy, Physical Rehabilitation, Therapy and Rehabilitation.
  • Completed PhD degree or current doctoral-level study in Physical Therapy, Therapy and Rehabilitation.

  • Demonstrated experience with research methodology and with searching, critically appraising, interpreting, and synthesizing scientific evidence relevant to physical therapy practice.
  • Demonstrated professional experience with clinical assessment and outcome measurement, development or use of clinical guidance, and/or other methods that support evidence-based professional decision-making in physical therapy.
  • Demonstrated experience developing educational, methodological, scientific, or professional content for physical therapists, rehabilitation professionals, or students.
  • Excellent written Ukrainian and the ability to work effectively with English-language scientific literature and international evidence resources.
  • Strong analytical, writing, organization, and collaboration skills, including the ability to work productively as a co-author, meet agreed milestones, and incorporate structured peer-review feedback.
  • Strong computer literacy, including practical ability to work with Microsoft Word, cloud-based collaboration tools, bibliographic/reference materials, and online scientific databases.
