About APOPO

APOPO is an international Belgian non-profit organisation established in 1997. APOPO protects people and the environment by training animals to detect explosives, diseases and illegal trafficking, as well as to support search and rescue operations.

In Ukraine, APOPO works in mine action and helps reduce the risks caused by landmines and other explosive remnants of war.

About the role

We are looking for an Interpreter and Translator to join APOPO’s office in Kyiv. The main purpose of the role is to ensure clear and accurate communication in Ukrainian and English between Ukrainian and international colleagues.

The postholder will translate documents, correspondence, reports, instructions and other working materials. They will also provide interpretation during meetings, training sessions and work-related discussions.

Main responsibilities

• Provide Ukrainian-English and English-Ukrainian interpretation during meetings, training sessions and work-related discussions.
• Translate documents, reports, presentations, instructions, emails and other materials.
• Review translations to ensure accuracy, consistency and clarity.
• Assist with editing professional correspondence and documents.
• Develop and regularly update a Ukrainian-English glossary of professional terms.
• Complete translation tasks accurately and on time.
• Maintain confidentiality when working with internal information.
• Work closely with APOPO’s programme, operations, administration and other teams.
• Perform other relevant duties when required.

About you

We are looking for a candidate who has:

• Excellent written and spoken Ukrainian and English.
• A university degree in translation, linguistics, foreign languages or another relevant field.
• One to three years of experience in translation, editing or language support.
• Experience providing interpretation during meetings.
• The ability to translate professional documents clearly and accurately.
• Strong attention to detail and good organisational skills.
• The ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
• Good Microsoft Office skills.
• The ability to work independently and cooperate effectively with an international team.

Previous experience with an international or humanitarian organisation would be an advantage.
